Khwai River Lodge nestles on the edge of a forest overlooking the vast floodplains of the Moremi Wildlife Reserve in the Khwai Concession. Known for its exceptional range of big game, a host of animals are visible from the comfort of your own private deck at this luxury safari lodge. The location of the lodge takes its guests to the heart, and nowhere is this more palpable than out here in the bush. As you spot lions, cheetahs and hippos, with birds of prey circling above, you feel that you are within a world that has barely changed since time began.
Safari Experience At Khwai River Lodge
Khwai Concession bordering Moremi Game Reserve is situated on the north-eastern corner of the Okavango Delta. The bordering reserve was the first wildlife area to be set aside by tribal people rather than colonial powers. The slender Khwai Channel is home to hippo, crocodile and buffalo with red lechwe often feeding along the fringe. The attractive gallery riverine woodland, dominated by ancient camelthorn, knobthorn and appleleaf, provides sanctuary to birds, primates and leopard. Elusive roan and sable antelope often drink at the river. The floodplains offer common species including kudu, tsessebe, zebra and wildebeest while the mopane woodland together with the perpetual presence of water attracts large numbers of elephant to the area. Greater predators include lion, wild dog and spotted hyena. Birds seen include Verreaux’s Eagle-owl, Senegal Coucal, Long-toed Lapwing and Arnott’s Chat.
