OVERVIEW ON SEBA CAMP IN OKAVANGO DELTA

Seba Camp, set in an ancient riverine forest, offers secluded accommodation overlooking a perennial lagoon. It has five well-appointed and spacious elevated tents, each with en-suite bathroom and private deck. Seba is family friendly, complete with family villa with two inter-leading en-suite bedrooms, a built-in ‘tree-house’ and a kids’ swimming pool and sandpit. The dining area is set on a raised saligna deck with spectacular views. The camp is named after Seba, one of the elephants historically released from nearby Abu Camp. A number of elephants that were released back into the wild have formed their own herd. The interaction between these and the wild herds in the area provides rich fodder for research teams from Bristol University in the U.K. Guests can observe the researchers at work, often in close proximity to the elephant herds. Activities include day and night game drives, seasonal fishing and mokoro excursions on the waterways.

Location Of Seba Camp

Distinct from some of the water-inundated areas of the Okavango Delta, the environments around Seba Camp vary from open grasslands to isolated island sanctuaries and papyrus-fringed channels, allowing for a profusion of general game viewing: from giraffe, zebra, elephant, impala, tsessebe and lechwe to wildebeest, buffalo and warthog. Lions often passage through the concession as well and can sometimes be heard roaring at night. The camp is named after Seba, one of the elephants historically released from nearby Abu Camp. As a baby, Seba starred in the Walt Disney movie, Whispers, that was filmed in the area. The word “seba” means whisper in the native language. He and a number of elephants that were released back into the wild have now formed their own herd near Seba Camp. The interaction between these elephants and the wild elephant herds in the area provides rich fodder for research teams from Bristol University in the UK. Guests can observe the researchers at work, often in close proximity to the elephant herds. Guides are always happy to drive visitors to see a released elephant and its wild companions when they are in the purlieu of Seba Camp. At around 180 000 hectares, the Seba Camp concession is idyllically placed in the Okavango Delta for admirable bird viewing by mokoro. Particularly exciting sights include: the Malachite Kingfisher, White-browed Coucal, Luapula Cisticola, Pied Kingfisher, Rufous-bellied Heron and Great Egret

Safari Experience At Seba Camp

Plains game is abundant in the area in the summer months before and after the annual winter flood: from giraffe, zebra, elephant, impala, tsessebe and lechwe to wildebeest, buffalo and warthog. The camp’s territorial pride of lion often announces its presence; the calls sometimes heard echoing late into the evenings. There is an abundance of birdlife found in the area and with over 380 species found in the region, Seba Camp is a haven for bird enthusiasts.
